Module 3 — Price behaviour

Relative volume (RVOL)

5 minute read

In plain English

Relative volume compares today's volume with the normal volume for this time of day. 3x means three times the usual pace.

Why it matters

It separates genuinely unusual activity from ordinary trading.

Example

A ticker with 3 million shares by 10am against a 1 million average is running at roughly 3x.

Try this

Filter the Radar by RVOL above 2 and read the reason column for each result.

Common mistake

Comparing today's total volume with yesterday's total mid-session.

What this does not mean

High relative volume does not tell you which direction the interest is pushing.
